Is It Down? Website Down Detector
Check if a website is down for everyone or just you. We test it from our server and show its status, response time and what went wrong.
How does this down detector work?
When you enter a website, our server looks up its DNS records and then requests its homepage, first over HTTPS and then over HTTP. It follows redirects and records the HTTP status code, how long the server took to answer, and the reason when the request fails. Because the test runs from our server, not your device, it tells you whether a site is down for everyone or just for you.
It's up here but not for me. What now?
The problem is somewhere between you and the website. Try reloading without the cache, another browser, or your phone on mobile data. Clearing your DNS cache or restarting your router often helps. Some sites also block certain countries or networks.
What do the error codes mean?
A 5xx status means the website's server has a problem, and codes 520 to 526 come from Cloudflare when it can't reach the site's own server. A timeout or refused connection usually means the server is offline or overloaded. A 403 often just means a firewall blocked our automated check, while the site still works for visitors.
Is your own website often down?
Frequent downtime is usually a hosting problem. We monitor real customer websites on many hosts and test their speed every month: see how we test hosts, or find a more reliable one with our Web Hosting Finder.
