Wondering if InMotion hosting is a good hosting for your next project? There are multiple positive/negative reviews about the hosting service. So, you need to be careful while choosing this.

We have listed out a few reasons why Inmotion hosting sucks and is not as good as you might think.

Let’s jump in.

Why does Inmotion hosting sucks? (6 Reasons)

InMotion hosting was good a few years back. It was one of the best hosting services to use. However, in recent years, it has grown exponentially which has led to many problems in the service.

It’s a common issue in the hosting industry. When the hosting service grows too fast, it becomes harder for them to handle these many customers and the services slowly start degrading.

Here are 6 reasons why InMotion hosting isn’t the best in the industry.

Reason 1 – Frequent Downtimes

Downtime is one of the major reasons why InMotion is not good enough.

Frequent downtimes are happening in the InMotion server. Most recently, 6 days before writing this article there was an email ticket creation issue which is small and doesn’t bother most people.

However, unplanned maintenance on servers can be a big turn-off.

Yet another server disruption was reported 12 days ago.

One may think that these might not affect all the servers. Well, you’re right. But, that’s where you need to see InMotion hosting reviews on Trustpilot.

Here’s one of the latest reviews where the user faced downtime multiple times.

In the above review, the user’s site was down for 30 minutes every day. Even a small downtime sends a negative signal to visitors as well as search engines.

Having big downtime is surely an extremely bad signal from a hosting service.

Reason 2 – Slow customer support

They do offer multiple ways to contact the support.

As they have live chat and call support, your small problems are solved easily. However, the problem begins when you come across the big technical issues.

In that case, the support team will take a lot of time to solve the issue.

Here’s one of the reviews posted in the Trustpilot.

There are multiple reviews where you will see the same type of problem. The support replies on time in most cases. It doesn’t mean they are here to steal your money.

So, if the problem is easily solvable with a few clicks from their side, they will surely do the same.

Reason 3 – Slow performance

The performance is quite slow as compared to other hosting services. You will face issues if you have multiple websites running on the shared hosting.

Their service is quite oversold and with resource limits. So, it can handle a few websites easily on your shared hosting. However, if you have more websites, it’s recommended to switch to other hosting.

slow performance with multiple websites The slow speeds are mostly because of the technical issues in their servers. In one of the reviews, a customer complains that his site went low on resources due to a server upgrade.

These technical issues are one of the most annoying things which lead to slow performance as well as the low-resource usage. This brings us to the next point.

Reason 4 – Low Resources offered

The resources are fewer as compared to others. The launch plan which is the 2nd one has an inode limit of 50,000. In the same way, there are many other limits such as CPU seconds, script executions, entry processes, etc.

Resource Launch Plan Limitations
CPU Seconds Unspecified (Limit of 100% in cPanel)
Script Executions Unspecified (Limit of 100% in cPanel)
Entry Processes 20
I/O Usage 2MB
IOPS (I/O Per Second) 1024
Inodes 50000

CPU seconds is the limit for which you can utilize the maximum CPU. In the same way, script execution is the limit on the time interval of the script executed. When a script is executed, it sends a request which is often called a process.

There are limits on a number of entry processes a server can handle at the same time. Here, it’s limited to 20.

I/O usage is basically the speed of the data transfer between RAM and SSD. It’s usually 4 MB. While in InMotion hosting, it’s only 2 MB.

IOPS is the number of times you can read/write the disk. Usually, it’s around 4k. However, it’s only 1024 in InMotion Hosting. Inodes are the number of files/folders/emails and all the other files/directories stored in the server.

inmotion hosting resources usage

This is a snapshot from a newly purchased server. For that reason, you will see no usage. However, you need to see the allocated limit to the shared hosting service. It’s quite low as compared to industry standards.

The resource usage is good enough if you take the initial price into consideration. However, it’s too low when you take the renewal rate too.

You might think the renewal rate will be 2x of the initial rate, right? Well, it’s way more than that. This brings us to the reason number 5 of high renewal rates.

Reason 5 – High Renewal Prices

If you have been using one of the hosting services for a while, you will be aware that hosting companies double or even triple their hosting rate at the time of renewal.

The same happens with InMotion hosting.

Here’s a table of the 1-year current price and renewal rate for InMotion shared hosting services.

Plan Current Rate Renewal Rate
Core $2.99/mo $10.99/mo
Launch $4.79/mo $13.99/mo
Power $4.79/mo $17.99/mo
Pro $10.79/mo $24.99/mo

As you can see, the current rate of $2.99 goes to $10.99 per month. That’s almost 4x of the current rate.

We won’t say that these are hidden terms because they display the renewal rate directly on the pricing page.

The place where most people fall is between Launch and Power plans. As you can see both of these plans have the same current rate. So, you can buy any of these plans. Most people go with the Power plan as it provides more features.

However, the renewal rates are different for both. So, you need to keep this in mind while you register for hosting with InMotion shared hosting.

To make it worse, most hosting services provide a huge discount if you go with a 3-year hosting. So, most individuals go with a 3-year hosting as their website starts generating enough revenue after 3 years to pay the high renewal rates.

In the case of InMotion hosting, the 3-year starting rate is more than the 1-year rate. Without a doubt, you will get a discount at the renewal rate but the starting monthly rate for the first invoice is actually more than what you would pay for the 1-year.

The core plan costs $3.19/mo (Renews at $9.99/mo) for a 3-year term while it costs $2.99/m (Renews at $10.99/mo) for a 1-year term.

Reason 6 – Paid Essential features

You might be happy to see the free list of features on the hosting pricing page. However, it’s missing some of the important features. For instance, backup is one of the most common features that they charge additional costs for.

Now, don’t get us wrong, there are many hosting services out there that charge extra for backups. However, we at WebHostingAdvices believe that when you’re paying a decent amount for hosting, the essential features should be free.

Coming to the domain name, Inmotion hosting sucks because they charge even for privacy protection. A few years back this would’ve been a common thing that we could ignore. However, in today’s era, most domain name registrars provide free privacy protection.

Conclusion

InMotion Hosting was a decent hosting service a few years back. However, they have grown downhill for the past couple of years. It’s still a decent hosting if you wish to host your hobby project or side project.

The low starting rate makes it attractive for many users.

So, if you are planning to host a site for 1-year, it’s surely a good host. However, we don’t recommend it for serious projects.

Instead, you can go with Dreamhost or Hostinger.
