Question by Victoria G: Whats the difference between notebook and netbook?
My dad wants to get my mom a computer for christmas. It has to be pink and needs to be under 400. I can't seem to find a pink one in that range except a net book. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between a net book and notebook. What's the difference? What does a notebook have that a net book doesn't and vice a versa?Thank in advance!

They are not the same thing…. A notebook is usually about 14-15 inches big and netbooks are around 7-12 inches big and have much longer battery life, but have weaker hardware.

netbooks are smaller and not as powerful as notebooks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEYZSgnr6e8

the primary difference is the net-book will be missing the optical drive. (ie. no dvd or cd drive) but you can use a usb dvd drive with that, and also the spec’s will be lower. and the screen size also will be smaller ( less than 14inch).

but net books are good for internet browsing and home applications ( no heavy games, but it can play flash games)

its better to take ur mom while going to purchase, due to the smaller size some ppl don’t like it.

hope this helps. happy holidays.

a nOTEbook is basically a laptop. (what you are used to see)
a nETbook is a “small” laptop.

a netbook is significantly smaller/lighter, usually 1/4th the size of a typical laptop.

as for the size difference, netbooks are designed to run on a smaller scale (i.e graphics are “worse”, speed is “slower” etc etc)

i put the things in quotes, because unless your mother is into heavy duty work, like photoshop, movie editing, gaming, etc etc

all the negatives are easy to overlook.

again, if your mother wants to simply browse the internet, maybe watch a movie, type a word document, a netbook will be fine.

A netbook is a cheap device that enables you to browse the web and do basic tasks like word-processing, spreadsheets etc. If you want to do anything more than that, such as watching video content and playing games, a laptop would be much more user-friendly.

Screen Size :
Netbook:Roughly 10 inches,smaller keyboard.Good for simple tasks such as emailing,browsing the internet,light entertainment
Laptop: larger scree, can do complex and graphics-intensive tasks

Battery
Netbook : 7 to 8 hours on average
Laptop : 3 to 4 hours on average
Weight

Netbook : 1.2 kg can be carried in a regular bag
Laptop : 2.72 kg , needs a specialized case
